Police are warning shoppers to beware of their surroundings at all times following a distraction theft that happened over the noon hour yesterday in Kitchener.
Waterloo regional police say on Feb. 19, at around 12:45 p.m., they received a report of a wallet stolen from a vehicle parked in the area of Ottawa Street North and River Road East.
The victim told police she was loading items into her vehicle when she was approached by an unknown male who engaged her attention by telling her something was wrong with a rear tire on her vehicle.
During that time, another male suspect approached the car from the opposite side and stole a wallet from inside a purse in the backseat.
Officers believe that the victim was initially targeted while in the checkout line to obtain her banking card information.
