Arrests made in scrap metal theft investigation

Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) has laid charges in connection to several metal thefts in Cambridge.

Between Jan. 30, 2025 and Feb. 13, 2025, three scrap metal thefts occurred from a business in the area of Pinebush Road and High Ridge Court.

On Feb. 20, 2025 at approximately 9:30 p.m., as part of the ongoing investigation, DART officers located and stopped a vehicle connected to the three previous thefts.

Two males, the driver and passenger, were identified as the metal theft suspects and placed under arrest.

The vehicle, which contained a variety of break-in tools, including a crowbar, grinder, and bolt cutters, was seized as offence-related property.

As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, both from Toronto, were charged with the following offences:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of break-and-enter tools
  • Attempt to commit indictable offence – theft

The accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
