A proactive traffic stop on Dec. 30 led to Waterloo regional police seizing drugs and weapons in the area of Christopher Drive and Champlain Boulevard.
At approximately 8 p.m., officers were on patrol in a cruiser equipped with automated license plate recognition technology when they stopped a vehicle registered to a suspended driver.
Upon speaking with the driver, officers observed drugs in the vehicle. Police then arrested a 30-year-old female from Ayr for possession of a Schedule 1 substance.
A further investigation of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, hydromorphone, oxycodone and clonazepam. Officers also seized Canadian currency, cell phones, a conducted energy weapon, pepper spray, a prohibited knife and a metal bat.
As a result, the female has been charged with 14 offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking (four counts), possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (five counts), possession of a prohibited weapon (three counts), possession of proceeds of crime and possession of identity document.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
