The Waterloo Regional Police Service is honoured to host the launch of the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) National Project Red Ribbon campaign on Nov. 1, 2024.

Community partners will join members from MADD to help raise awareness about the risks and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or cannabis or other drugs.

Project Red Ribbon begins on Nov. 1, 2024, and runs until Jan. 8, 2025.

Throughout Project Red Ribbon, thousands of red ribbons and red ribbon vehicle decals will be distributed throughout Waterloo Region and across Canada.

“Impaired driving continues to be the leading criminal cause of death in Canada,” said Mark Crowell, Chief of Police. “We are proud to once again support the Red Ribbon Campaign, and we encourage members of the community to display their ribbons in support of the campaign. We will continue to work together this season to reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roadways and save lives.”

Members of the community are encouraged to play an important role in road safety by:

  • planning ahead and arranging for a designated driver or public transportation
  • offering a sober ride to a friend who has been consuming alcohol or drugs
  • calling 9-1-1 to report suspected impaired drivers

Media and members of the community are welcome to attend the national launch event on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Regional Police Service headquarters, 200 Maple Grove Rd., Cambridge, Ont.

For more information about Project Red Ribbon visit the MADD website.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
