Three arrested, one 15 and one 16, in connection with jewelry heist

Suspects used a hammer to smash display cases and steal merchandise before running from store

Waterloo Regional Police Service’s robbery team have charged three males after an armed robbery in Kitchener.

On Sept. 6, around 5 p.m., police responded to several reports of an armed robbery at a jewelry store at Highland Hills Mall.

Four suspects attended the area in an SUV stolen in Peel Region two days earlier. Three of the suspects then exited the vehicle and entered a jewelry store inside the mall. The suspects used a hammer to smash display cases, stole merchandise, and fled the store.

Members of the public who observed the robbery intervened and detained the three suspects in a mall hallway until police arrived and took over the arrests.

No physical injuries were sustained as a result of this incident.

Three males, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and an 18-year-old, all from Brampton, were charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

All three males were held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The fourth suspect, the driver of the stolen vehicle, fled before police arrival and remains outstanding. The vehicle is described as a black 2024 Jeep Wrangler with the Ontario licence plate number CZXZ 122.

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ Robbery Team.
