Police are warning members of the public to remain aware of their surroundings after rash of distraction thefts.

According to police, between Oct. 29 and Nov. 6, they have received five reports of distraction thefts at area grocery stores, with wallets being taken from carts.

"While these fraudsters will take advantage of anyone, it appears that the suspects are targeting older adults," said WRPS in a social media post.

"If you have been a victim of a distraction theft and have not yet reported the incident, please contact police."

They also ask people to pay close attention to their property if someone randomly tries to engage in a conversation or seems suspicious.
