Waterloo Regional Police have charged a male with multiple criminal offences after he fled from police in a stolen motor vehicle.

On November 11, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., police received a report that a Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from the secure compound of a business located in Cambridge.

Patrol officers located the stolen truck being driven in the area of Kingsway Drive and Wilson Avenue in Kitchener. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the male driver reversed the truck over a curb and into a fence before driving into a police cruiser. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed on Wilson Avenue.

A short time later, at approximately 8:10 a.m., police located the truck, unoccupied, in the area of Maryhill Road and Crowsfoot Road in Woolwich Township.

Members of WRPS’ Emergency Response Team, Canine Team, Robbery Team, and Neighbourhood Policing began a search for the driver and observed him running into a forested area nearby. Officers contained the area while the Canine Team and a remotely piloted vehicle (RPV) were deployed to locate the male.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the Canine Team arrested the male after being located in a cornfield by the RPV.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 40-year-old Brantford male, was charged with:

  • Break and Enter
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000
  • Flight From Police
  • Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
  • Drive while Under Suspension

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
