Two cambridge men are facing dozens of charges after members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Drugs and Firearms Unit executed search warrants on homes in Cambridge and seized weapons, drugs and more than $100,000 in cash on Wedesday.
In June, the Drugs and Firearms Unit initiated a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation into a 22-year-old Cambridge male.
Then on Wednesday, investigators completed two search warrants and seized six handguns, a loaded shotgun, imitation firearms, more than $100,000 in currency and a vehicle.
Police also seized approximately four kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and more than a kilogram of suspected cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, the 22-year-old man and a 62-year-old man were jointly charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (four counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm (six counts)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Contravention of Storage Regulations (six counts)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm (six counts)
- Possession for the Purpose of Weapons Trafficking
Additionally, the 22-year-old was charged with Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000 and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking.
The 62-year-old male was additionally charged with six counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order.
Both accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
In a separate investigation, police charged a 54-year-old Kitchener man with possession of prohibited weapons and possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking following a search warrant also executed Wednesday at a home on Evergreen Crescent.
WRPS investigators have laid over 85 charges in relation to three separate investigations over a couple of days.
