Police are warning residents to keep their doors and windows locked following an afternoon break-in in a Waterloo neighbourhood last week.

Waterloo Regional Police Service says members of its break, enter, and vehicle theft (BEVT) team are investigating a March 14 break-in in the area of Wasaga Crescent and Rideau River Street.

Unknown suspects forcibly entered a residence and stole personal property.

Police are asking homeowners in the area to check their security cameras between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. that day for any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity.

Police suggest the following tips to help prevent break-ins:

  • Keep doors and windows locked, even when home
  • Keep valuables out of common areas and out of plain sight
  • Secure residences with home video surveillance cameras in the front and back of the residence
  • Notify a neighbour and/or close friends when away to check on your residence, and bring in mail and packages
  • Do not post about being away on social media
  • Report any suspicious persons or vehicles on your street

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8255.
