Waterloo Regional Police have charged two male youths in connection to an investigation where an intimate image was allegedly shared without consent.

On Nov. 30, police received a report that an intimate image of a female youth was shared with a group of youths.

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Investigative Services Division conducted an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, three youths were arrested.

Two male youths were charged with distributing intimate images and distributing child pornography.

They are both scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2023.

A female youth was diverted for similar charges to a community program.

Police said no further information will be provided relating to the youth’s identity due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service takes the sharing of intimate images without consent seriously. Someone could face charges if they possess an intimate photo or video made in a private setting and knowingly post it online or give it to another person, knowing that the individual in the image would not consent to it.
