Seven copper memorial plaques stolen from benches at the Victoria Park Tennis Club in West Galt earlier this month were acquired by a local business and handed over to police.

Waterloo regional police said around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, employees from the business turned over the memorial plaques to police.

Police determined where the plaques belonged and returned them to the City of Cambridge.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Several memorial plaques have gone missing from park benches and other locations throughout the city over the last few years and are believed to be sought for their monetary value as scrap metal.
