Commercial vehicle blitz in Kitchener sees 78 vehicles taken off road

On June 19 and 20, 2024, Waterloo Regional Police Service partnered with Guelph Police Service, Brantford Police Service, Halton Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Finance for a joint commercial motor vehicle enforcement initiative. 

The traffic enforcement was conducted in the areas throughout the region, including areas near the 401 highway.  

In total, 210 commercial motor vehicles were inspected by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified inspectors.

78 vehicles were taken out of service for a 37 per cent out-of-service rate.

14 sets of licence plates were removed police laid 142 charges, including, but not limited to:

  • insecure load
  • defective brakes
  • unsafe vehicles
  • no CVOR
  • fail to complete daily inspection report
  • overweight load
  • insecure dangerous goods
  • drive major defect
  • improper driver’s licence
