A 60-year-old Cambridge man is facing impaired driving charges after he was stopped Monday by Sault Ste. Marie OPP who, after arresting him, found an open container of beer in his pickup.

On Sept. 25, shortly after 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a westbound white pickup truck swerving in the westbound lanes of Highway 17 near Smith Road.

OPP located the pickup entering Sault Ste. Marie city limits and initiated a traffic stop near Trunk Road.

While speaking to the driver, police determined alcohol had been consumed. The driver was arrested and transported to Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment for further testing.

The pickup truck was searched, and OPP located an open can of beer.

The pickup truck was towed, impounded for seven days and the driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

Police charged the man with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and driving with an open container of liquor.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 13, 2023.

The OPP urges anyone who sees a possible impaired driver on roads, waterways, or trails to call 9-1-1.
