It is with sadness we announce that Euna Maxine Weir of Cambridge ON passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Stirling Heights LTC, at the age of 87.
Beloved wife of John Weir (formerly of Cathcart, ON) for 34 wonderful years, she was the loving mother of Kim Mosgrove of Cambridge and Jeff Bowlby (Jacqueline Tebbens) of Ottawa. Maxine was a proud grandmother of Nick Mosgrove (Heather) of Oakville and their children: Bruce, Thea, Edward, and Parker; Brandon Mosgrove (Rachael) of Kitchener and their children: Sullivan, Casey Rae, and Caleb; Alysha Mosgrove (Tyler Delane) of Brantford; and Seth, Kirk, Luke, and Mark Bowlby, all of Ottawa. Maxine was also Step-Mom to John's children (Barbara Thibert, Robert, and Michael Weir) and their families. She is predeceased by her parents Wallace and Minnie Humphrey of Bayham Township (Straffordville), her brother (Hugh Humphrey), and sisters (Holly Beckett, Madge Graydon-Ayres and Donna Gilbert).
Maxine lived a full and vibrant life, and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. At age 62, she retired from Hostess Frito-Lay in Cambridge after 27 years. Maxine was very proud of her 40 years of volunteer work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, dedicating her time to a cause close to her heart. A gifted baker, Maxine was renowned for her legendary butter tarts, and her baked treats were a staple at every occasion for family and friends. She loved to play board games, was an avid euchre player, enjoyed knitting, and collected coins. Maxine also loved to travel, creating many special memories with John as they explored the Caribbean, South America and parts of the United States.
With her fun-loving spirit, Maxine was truly the life of the party. She delighted in teasing those around her and keeping everyone laughing. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured the time she spent with them. Known for her exceptional memory, Maxine never forgot a birthday, or an important detail about those in her life. Her bright sense of humor, warm heart, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, December 5 from10-11 a.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, December 5 at 11 a.m. within the funeral home chapel, with reception to follow.
