John (Herbert John) Wright died in his retirement home on Nov 17th, 2024, in his one hundred and first year.

John was predeceased by his wife Shona (nee Calder) and will be remembered with love by their two sons Graham (Gail) and Iain (Heather) Wright and their children Shonagh and Sandy. Born in London, England on January 15th, 2024, he grew up in Grantown-on-Spey in Scotland with his father Charles and mother Mary (Mitchell) Wright. John attended Grantown Grammar school and was Dux of the school at the age of sixteen. The first in Grantown to attend University, John graduated from Aberdeen University as a Mechanical Engineer and went into the army where he was posted to India as a Captain in the Royal Engineers.

After the war he apprenticed in Renfrew Scotland with Babcock and Wilcox (B&W) and started work in the London Head office. After a six-month posting to B&W’s Cambridge facility where he made life-long friends, he lived two years in Brazil and ten years in Mexico City. John moved to Canada where he became director of the Pressure Vessel Safety Branch of the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations. He retired in 1988 and moved to Cambridge where he joined the PROBUS Club.

John loved to spend time playing golf, walking Duffy, enjoying Southampton, and travelling with Shona. John had a talent for painting and led art classes at the community center in Cambridge and developed a way of teaching called the Wright Way, which he was still presenting at his retirement home at the age of ninety-nine.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church in Cambridge on Thursday November 28th at 1:00 p.m. No flowers please, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society of Canada
