April 9, 1946 - October 22, 2024.
Passed away surrounded by love at Cambridge Memorial Hospital aged 78 years.

Roy was a devoted husband and will remain in the heart of his loving wife of 56 years, Marlyn (Janzen) Hurnanen. He will be dearly missed by his children Darin Hurnanen and Shauna Hurnanen and her spouse Peter Cheung. His quiet kindness will be remembered by his grandchildren, Aidan and Anna Hurnanen and Liam and Sophie Cheung.

His sister Eileen Landa, sister in law Marie Hurnanen and brother in law Don Janzen along with many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends also mourn his passing.

He is predeceased by his parents John and Eileen Hurnanen and siblings Lila Johnson, Jonas Hurnanen and Iona Mae Hurnanen.

Roy was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and grew up on the family grain farm. He attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton where he earned a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics. Roy spent most of his career in the agricultural sector, travelling extensively around the globe for Shaver Poultry Breeder Farms. He finished his working life as co-owner with Marlyn, of Ziebart, an automotive aftermarket franchise. After retirement Roy and Marlyn spent time travelling around the United States and wintering in an RV in Texas.

Roy learned to curl in high school and was a member of the Galt Curling Club for many years. In Texas, he began to play pickle ball and this became a new passion. He and Roxy, his canine companion were a volunteer team for St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs and enjoyed providing friendly visits to seniors.

Lifelong, Roy demonstrated a strong work ethic and quiet determination. He was kind and considerate. He was someone you could count on.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Roy’s memory to St John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
