A roundabout is coming to the intersection of Edworthy Side Road and Roseville Road in North Dumfries township.

Flags mark utility locates at the intersection of Edworthy Side Road and Roseville Road, where the Region of Waterloo plans to build a roundabout and will begin expropriating land from neighbouring properties.

The recommended roundabout will replace temporary traffic signals installed about five years ago as an interim measure while the region undertook a study to determine "the best solution to improve safety at the intersection," says a report headed to the region's planning and works committee next week.

The roundabout west of the city will be the second proposed for Roseville Road in North Dumfries township.

Last summer the region initiated plans to build a roundabout at Roseville and Dickie Settlement roads following council approval.

That project is in its detailed design phase.

The region says that between 2014 and 2018, there were four collisions at the Edworthy and Roseville intersection.

Though none were fatal, all four collisions resulted in property damage and triggered a need for a study to determine safety performance, traffic capacity and total life cycle costing.

All affected property owners were contacted, provided appraisals and offered to enter contracts with the region, the report says.

The region’s approved transportation capital program includes a budget of $264,000 for the project in 2024 and about $2.6 million in 2025 and 2026, when construction is expected to get underway

It will be funded from the Roads Regional Development Charges Reserve Fund.
