The Cambridge Community Clean Up returns this weekend.

The city is asking people to lend a hand this weekend to help make Cambridge a cleaner place to live.

A community clean up is planned for Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at four locations in the city.

Residents can head to Churchill Park, Forbes Park, Soper Park or Riverside Park to pick up litter.

A booth will be set up at each location to supply free garbage bags, pickers and gloves.

“Cleaning up our parks, trails and public spaces demonstrates we care about our environment and may seem like a small thing but it's directly related to many aspects of the city’s Cambridge Connected Strategic Plan,” Paul Willms, sustainability planner for the City of Cambridge told CambridgeToday before last year's event.

"It’s a collective task that demonstrates pride in our community and its public spaces and is one of the simplest things that can be done to improve our natural environment."

While volunteers have declined since the pandemic, numbers have been increasing in recent years.

Willms said that prior to the pandemic anywhere between 3,000 and 6,000 people would take part.

The city also has a clean up request app where people can notify staff of areas that need attention.

The app won't be used during Saturday's cleanup, however.

Instead, volunteers are asked to leave their provided garbage bags in visible locations in the parks.

City staff will go around parks throughout the day to collect the garbage bags when they see them.
