Wesley United Church will soon be the home of an overnight warming centre hosted by Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services.

Porchlight has put out an urgent call for anyone with experience, "patience and compassion" helping the region's unhoused population to submit an application to staff its new overnight warming centre at Wesley United Church.

The counselling and addiction services agency is managing the new facility with funding from the Region of Waterloo.

The job posting is for six full time workers, working 12-hour "continental shifts," meaning two days on, three days off, three days on and two days off.

Compensation is $33.50 per hour plus vacation pay. Shifts will be overnight and will end in mid to late April.

The region announced the warming centre was coming to the downtown Galt church on Monday without a firm opening date.

The church, located at 6 Cambridge St., is expected to open its doors to 20 to 30 people experiencing homelessness per night.

Duties for staff at the facility will be registering guests and providing orientation to the space, preparing food and drink, building relationships, offering support, ensuring their safety and cleaning and organizing.

More information is available on Porchlight's website.

The deadline for applications is midnight tonight.
