Police say would-be auto thieves broke into a Kitchener home in the early hours this morning as the homeowners slept.

Police said the homeowners woke up to the sound of the intruders and camera alerts, and the suspects fled on foot.

The Waterloo Regional Police break, enter and vehicle theft team is now seeking the public's assistance in identifying the intruders.

At around 5:15 a.m., police responded to the break-in in the Deer Ridge neighbourhood. 

Police say at around 4:50 a.m., the would-be thieves entered the home while the homeowners were sleeping.

Police said the intruders were targeting keys for vehicles in the driveway.

The homeowners woke up and the intruders fled, according to a police news release.

Police said they believe the suspects were dropped off and picked up by another vehicle which would have been circling the neighbourhood before the incident.

Suspect 1 was described as a male with a thin build wearing a grey hoodie, grey gloves, grey Nike Tech Fleece track pants with black zipper, and white shoes.

Subject 2 was a male with a thin build wearing a black hoodie, black face mask, red gloves, black track pants, and white shoes.
