Waterloo regional police officer charged with assault in off-duty incidents

Police say the four-year member was previously charged with two separate counts of assault in connection to an incident that occurred in Toronto

A four-year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service has been charged by the Hamilton Police Service in connection to an off-duty incident.

Hamilton police arrested and charged the WRPS member on Jan. 11 with two counts of assault and two counts of fail to comply with undertaking in connection to incidents that occurred in Hamilton between May 27, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

The member, who has not been named, is scheduled to appear in Hamilton’s Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 7.

The member was previously charged on June 17, 2024, with two separate counts of assault in connection to an incident that occurred on June 1, 2024, in Toronto.

The member is scheduled to appear in Toronto’s Ontario Court of Justice on January 15, 2025, in relation to these charges.

Hamilton Police Service was unable to provide any further detail on the charges.

The WRPS member has been suspended without pay per the requirements of the Community Safety and Policing Act of Ontario.
