Waterloo Regional Police have charged a male with multiple criminal offences in connection to a stolen vehicle investigation in Waterloo Region.

On Nov. 30 at approximately 6:30 a.m., police received a report that a Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from a residence on Conservation Drive in Waterloo.

With the assistance of GPS tracking, patrol officers located the stolen truck being driven in the area of Adelaide Street in Kitchener. When the driver observed a police cruiser, he fled the area at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was not initiated due to public safety concerns.

A short time later, officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle on Shantz Station Road. The driver drove on both shoulders of the road to evade police and headed westbound on Highway 7. The driver then stopped the vehicle in an oncoming lane of traffic, exited the truck, and ran up to two separate vehicles in an attempt to steal them. The passenger in the stolen vehicle ran into a ditch.

After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested both the driver and passenger.

There were no physical injuries as a result of this incident.

The passenger, a 20-year-old Waterloo female, was charged with being an occupant of a motor vehicle without consent and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6, 2025.

The driver, a 28-year-old Waterloo male, has been charged with seven criminal offences, including:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous driving
  • Attempted robbery (two counts)
  • Driving while disqualified

The accused male was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ General Investigations Unit.
