A 17-year-old male who assaulted a woman before stealing her car in Kitchener yesterday is facing several charges after police tracked the vehicle to Stratford.

Waterloo regional police said on March 2, at around 5 p.m., they responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of Courtland Avenue East and Block Line Road.

Through investigation, officers determined that the female victim was approached by an unknown male at her vehicle in a parking lot.

The victim alleges the male suspect assaulted her, stole her car keys, and fled the area in the stolen vehicle.

Police were able to track the vehicle to Stratford, and Stratford Police Service officers arrested the male shortly after 6 p.m.

As a result of the investigation, the youth has been charged with robbery with violence and motor vehicle theft.

The accused was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with probation. He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

No physical injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
