Police subdue knife-wielding teen during Sunday arrest at Fairview Park mall

Police used a conducted energy weapon to subdue a 17-year-old male who threatened another male youth at Fairview Park mall in Kitchener on Sunday.

Waterloo regional police said around 2:35 p.m., police responded to Fairview Park for reports of a disturbance involving a male youth threatening a victim with a knife.

Officers arrived and located the male inside the mall. The male was uncooperative and began assaulting officers. Officers used a conducted energy weapon to effect an arrest. Officers located and seized a knife during the arrest.  

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Kitchener youth was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with intent to resist

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing. 

There were no physical injuries reported as a result of the incident.
