The Waterloo Regional Police Service, with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and police services across Ontario, will participate in the Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign.

The Festive RIDE Campaign is an annual provincial police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers off our roads during the holiday season.

This year’s WRPS Festive Ride Campaign begins November 15, 2024, and runs until January 1, 2025. During the campaign, WRPS will conduct RIDE initiatives and random mobile checks to help keep roads free of alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers.

"Driving while impaired, whether by alcohol or drugs, is both dangerous and illegal, and tragically remains the leading cause of criminal fatalities in Canada," said Staff Sergeant Scott Griffiths of the WRPS Traffic Services Unit. "This campaign serves as a reminder that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drugs if you plan to drive during the holiday season. The Waterloo Regional Police Service is dedicated to reducing impaired driving and will carry out RIDE programs and enforcement throughout the holidays to support this important effort."

Community members are encouraged to take shared responsibility for road and community safety by:

  • Never driving after consuming of alcohol or drugs, and ensuring others don’t drive if you know or suspect they have consumed either.
  • Planning ahead by arranging for a designated driver or using public transportation.
  • Offering a sober ride to a friend who has been drinking or using drugs.
  • Reporting suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
  • Enjoying responsibly.

By working together, we can eliminate impaired driving and keep the roads of Waterloo Region safe for everyone.
