Police investigate attempted armed break-in at Kitchener residence

Waterloo Regional Police say they are investigating an attempted break-and-enter in Kitchener early this morning in which at least one of the would-be intruders was armed with a gun.

Police say at around 5 a.m. they received a report of three people attempting to break into a residential property in the area of Lancaster Street West and Bridgeport Road East.

A resident reported that one of the suspects was carrying a handgun, according to police.

"The suspects fled the area on foot when confronted by the resident," police said in a news release.

"No physical injuries reported as a result of this incident."

Police said they are encouraging the public to keep all residential doors locked, even when home, and to report any suspicious activity or individuals to police immediately.
