Police arrested a 20-year-old Kitchener woman following a violent shoplifting incident at a Kitchener store last night.

Waterloo regional police allege the woman went into a store in the area of Victoria Street North and the Conestoga Expressway around 7:30 p.m. and selected merchandise from the shelves.

When she attempted to leave the store without paying she was confronted by a store employee who was then assaulted.

Police responded to the area and located the woman near Victoria Street North and Dunham Avenue.

Further investigation determined she was wanted on outstanding warrants for three counts of assault, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and failing to appear in court.

As a result of the investigation, she was charged with robbery with theft.

No physical injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
