Police allege man stole car in Waterloo to drive to store and steal more stuff

42-year-old was apprehended the next day leaving the scene of a break-and-enter

Waterloo regional police have charged three people after the theft of a motor vehicle and a break-and-enter in Waterloo.

Police said on Sept. 26, at around 7 a.m., a male stole a Honda Civic from the parking lot of a business in the area of Weber Street North and King Street North.

The male suspect then drove to a business in the area of Weber Street North and Farmers' Market Road in Woolwich Township and stole merchandise. The male then fled the area in the stolen Honda.

On Sept. 27, just after midnight, police received information that the stolen vehicle was in the area of Avens Street in Waterloo. Officers responded to the area, located two males in the stolen car, and placed them under arrest.

A short time later, police received a report of a break-and-enter in progress at a residence on Balsam Poplar Drive, a short distance from where the stolen vehicle was located.

Officers from WRPS’ Direct Action Response Team located and arrested a man walking away from the residence carrying stolen property. The man was determined to be the suspect from the vehicle theft on Sept. 26.

As a result of the investigation, the two men were arrested in the stolen Honda, a 53-year-old and a 40-year-old, both from Kitchener, and were charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

They are scheduled to appear in court in November 2024.

The man police arrested on the street, allegedly with stolen property, is 42 years old with no address.

He was charged with several offences, including:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Operation of a conveyance while prohibited
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Possession of Break and Enter Tools
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance

He was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
