OPP called after passenger tries to jump out of moving vehicle near Massey

A 30-year-old Cambridge driver is facing numerous charges after a passenger attempted to jump from his vehicle while it was travelling on Highway 17 near the town of Massey earlier this month. 

Manitoulin OPP said they received a traffic complaint about a passenger attempting to jump out of a moving vehicle on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township on Dec. 6, around 1 p.m.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and further investigation led to the driver being arrested for impaired operation. The man was also charged with refusal to comply with demand, dangerous operation and resisting a peace officer.

The man's drivers licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 6, 2025.
