A 52-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with possession of stolen property and trafficking stolen goods after police found him in Cambridge with plaques stolen from a number of Victoria Park park benches.

Waterloo regional police launched an investigation into several stolen memorial plaques in Cambridge on Oct. 30, after employees of a local business turned over several metal plaques to officers at south division on Hespeler Road.

Police determined the seven copper memorial plaques had been previously stolen off of benches at Victoria Park Tennis Club in West Galt.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, on Nov. 13, the man was arrested in Cambridge.

Officers seized an additional stolen plaque belonging to the City of Kitchener that the male had in his possession.

The accused was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000.
