Waterloo Regional Police have charged four individuals in connection to two attempted jewelry store robberies in Waterloo.
On Feb. 1, at around 6 p.m., police responded to reports of an attempted jewelry store robbery at Conestoga Mall.
Six suspects arrived at the mall in a grey Honda Civic stolen earlier in the day in Toronto.
The males entered the mall, approached the jewellery store, and fled when a store security guard intervened.
On Feb. 3, at around 1:50 p.m., police responded to reports of an attempted jewelry store robbery at Conestoga Mall.
Six suspects arrived at the mall in a silver SUV. The males entered the mall and fled when a store security guard shouted to close the gates to a jewelry store. Another security guard pursued the suspects and observed them leave in a silver SUV.
On Feb. 5, four individuals were arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the area of the Sunrise Centre in Kitchener following a jewelry store robbery in Stratford.
Two stolen vehicles from the Greater Toronto Area were recovered as part of the arrest.
As a result of the collaborative, multi-jurisdictional investigation, the four individuals were linked to the two attempted jewelry store robberies in Waterloo.
These four individuals remain in custody, and Waterloo regional police have issued warrants for their arrest.
Three youths, a 15-year-old from Toronto, a 16-year-old from Kitchener, and a 17-year-old from Nova Scotia, will be charged with:
- Attempted robbery with a weapon (two counts)
- Disguise with intent (two counts)
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
A 27-year-old man from Richmond Hill will be facing the same charges.
The investigation is ongoing to identify and locate the two outstanding individuals involved in the two attempted robberies in Waterloo.
