Ditched vehicle on Hwy. 17 results in impaired driving charges

A driver from Cambridge, Ont. faces impaired charges after driving into a ditch on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines on Saturday afternoon.

East Algoma OPP responded to the scene at around 3:45 p.m. and determined that the accused, 59-year-old Thomas Holland, had consumed alcohol, says a news release issued by OPP.

Holland was arrested and taken to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for further testing.

Holland is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on Nov. 7 and stands charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol
    •    Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the accused was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Holland is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
