The Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region wants to see more kids walking to school next month.
It's annual Winter Walk Day is scheduled for Feb. 5.
Walking allows students to build community, take the time to create relationships and explore the neighbourhood.
Avoiding motor vehicle transportation methods also limits harmful emissions and helps establish a safe transportation network around local schools.
Staff are encouraged to engage their classes through activities such as storytelling, learning about the benefits of active living, guest speakers and games.
By registering, schools are entered into a draw for a chance to win $250 gift certificates to help with the purchase of sports or safety equipment.
