A seniors retirement community in Cambridge is sharing an inspiring story of the efforts of one of its residents to raise funds without letting age hold her back.

Joan Thomlinson, a spirited 98-year-old resident of Seasons Cambridge, recently completed her 98th lap on the community track to mark her 98th birthday.

The feat was part of a fundraiser for the SickKids Foundation, a cause very close to Thomlinson’s heart.

Originally, Thomlinson set out to raise $2,098 for the charity but thanks to the support from the community, she surpassed her goal, raising $3,680.

“Joan’s determination and positive spirit have been truly inspiring to all of us. Seeing our community come together to support her and the SickKids Foundation has been a beautiful experience,” said Erica Boer, Seasons Cambridge fun manager.

“Joan’s achievement has filled our hearts with joy and reminded us all of the incredible things we can achieve at any age. We're all so proud of her!”

Thomlinson’s journey culminated last Friday afternoon when she completed her 97th and 98th laps amidst cheers and applause from fellow residents.

Her son and grandson stood at the finish line, holding the ribbon she crossed to mark her 98th lap.
