The region has lifted restrictions on water use following the successful repairs to a large water pipe that supplies 20 per cent of the region's drinking water.
Regular water service resumed overnight.
The region’s water operations team and its partners drained the pipe on August 19 and worked around the clock to repair it quickly and efficiently.
During repairs, residents were urged to reduce their water use as much as possible, and the community’s positive response helped keep water supply levels high.
“We successfully completed the watermain repair ahead of schedule, which has allowed us to lift water restrictions,” said Mari MacNeil, director of Water and Wastewater Service for the Region of Waterloo. “We really want to thank everyone in Waterloo Region who stepped up and reduced their water use. It truly made a positive impact on our supply.”
The Region has about 484 kilometers of water pipes that deliver drinking water to communities across Waterloo Region, including for emergency services.
