One of the Cambridge RedHawks biggest assists this season came well after the final horn sounded.
Through the auctioning off of their Military Appreciation Night themed jerseys on Nov. 25, the team raised $4,000 for Project Enlist.
The organization aims to dramatically accelerate critical research on traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in military veterans, athletes, youth and other at-risk groups.
"A huge thank you to Corbett Funeral Home, Cambridge RedHawks players, staff and fans, for raising $4,000 for Project Enlist Canada," Project Enlist Canada said in a social media post.
"Your hard work, dedication and generosity will help make a difference for veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members affected by brain injury."
With the sponsorship of Corbett Funeral Home and the help of other local businesses, 100 per cent of the proceeds from jersey sales were able to be donated to the cause. The game drew a season-high 669 fans to Galt Arena Gardens.
The RedHawks are currently on their holiday break and return to action on Jan. 5 in Stratford against the Warriors at 7:30 p.m.
They return home the following night for a game against the Ayr Centennials. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Cambridge is currently 16-12-3 on the season and sits in fifth place in the Midwestern Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
