The architects behind the Cambridge Idea Exchange Old Post Office Library have another design award to add to their collection.

The American Institute of Architecture has awarded the library, designed by RDHA, the highest honour at its International Design 2024 awards.

The Old Post Office library renovation and restoration was completed in 2018 by building around and incorporating the 1885 post office into its design. It has earned several awards over the last six years.

"The character-rich adaptive reuse project is a model for thoughtful heritage preservation as well as contemporary innovation, and earned both the Honour Award and the Sustainable Future Award, accolades that are coveted and respected by leading designers worldwide," reads a press release from the AIA.

The AIA International Design Awards, now in its 11th year, welcomed jurors who selected submissions in six categories - Architecture, Interior Architecture, Urban Design, Unbuilt Design, Open International and the Firm Award.

The Open International category was specifically developed to allow all AIA International members to be recognized for projects that are respectful of their local culture, unique program and international context.

The Sustainable Future Award recognize commitment to sustainability and inclusive and accessible design.

Three levels of awards were conferred: the highest recognition is Honor, the second is Merit and the third, Commendation.

"Collectively, these awards recognize the ability of outstanding architecture to inspire our fellow practitioners, governments and the public throughout AIA International and the world."

The awards ceremony was held in Hong Kong on Oct. 26
