SUSO Skate Co. heard the requests from the community loud and clear.
After its grand opening earlier this month, the Toronto-based roller skating company was flooded with questions about options for children.
Initially insurance and equipment issues stood in the way of including the younger generations but that's been resolved says co-owner Henry O'Brien.
"We're delighted to be launching our kids programming in Cambridge," he said.
"It's been two years in the making trying to secure the right insurance and getting our hands on the right inventory. Here's to getting the next generation of skaters rollin'."
With kids now able to glide around the old ice rink inside the Cambridge Centre mall, residents have two family-friendly roller skating options in the city.
Retro Roller Inc. has been occupying Galt Arena Gardens every Friday night since the beginning of May. The company first came to Cambridge as part of the arena's 100th anniversary celebrations last summer.
"We want the community to feel the joy that we feel when we roller skate and experience the loving and inclusive community of roller skaters," founder Philip Morris told CambridgeToday in March.
"We believe in the magic of roller skating. You can be having a terrible day and roller skating can be therapeutic and offload that stress. It's a great low impact exercise."
SUSO Skate Co. will be running events until August with Retro Rollers Inc. occupying the arena until the end of August.
