RARE CHARITABLE RESEARCH RESERVE

Excitement is building for a day of adventure, community and nature at rare’s 15th annual Trail Party.
This event celebrates the stunning natural spaces of Waterloo Region and Wellington County. On Sunday, Sept. 15, attendees will walk, hike or run on beautiful trails, all while raising funds to support rare’s Every Child Outdoors (ECO) environmental education program, inspiring children and youth to become the next generation of conservationists.
For a $30 registration fee (free for kids 12 and under), the Trail Party, presented by MacPherson Builders, offers something for everyone, whether they are avid runners or prefer a relaxed nature stroll with their family.
Attendees can choose from one of three options through rare’s Blair property: a 5K Run following the Grand Trunk Trail a 3.5K Family Friendly Walk following a shorter accessible path suitable for dogs on a leash and families with strollers, or a 4.5K Adventure Walk exploring rare’s side trails and offering panoramic views from the cliffs of the Grand River (this walk is not suitable for strollers or pets).
Following the walk, registrants will be treated to a mouth-watering barbecue lunch sponsored by Domm Farms, music, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Kids will love the Fusion Homes Kid Zone, while adults can relax and enjoy live performances from talented local buskers sponsored by Troy Schmidt Realty, WCO Chartered Professional Accountants and Zeifmans. There will also be fresh corn-on-the-cob supplied by Brian Domm Farms.
“This is more than just a walk or run,” says Sara Clark, rare’s events and development coordinator. “It’s a chance for our community to come together, connect with nature and take meaningful steps – literally and figuratively – to #StepUpForNature.”
Attendees can sign up at raretrailparty.ca and rally friends, family and coworkers to fundraise to preserve nature. Top fundraisers win special prizes, but everyone will take home the reward of knowing they’ve helped spark a love of nature in the next generation.
“Get outdoors, soak in the beauty around you, and help us preserve the incredible landscapes of Waterloo Region and Wellington County,” says Stephanie Sobek-Swant, rare’s executive director. “Together we’re ensuring these natural spaces can be enjoyed for generations to come!”
The rare Charitable Research Reserve is a community-driven urban land trust and environmental institute protecting over 1,200 acres of environmentally sensitive lands across Waterloo Region and Wellington County while engaging the community to take local action toward mitigating the global climate crisis.
The organization runs research and education programs and maintains over 12 kilometres of trails to foster an appreciation of these lands and their importance to the health and well-being of the surrounding community and the generations to follow.
