The first official summer long weekend has arrived, so kick back, relax and enjoy the party.

But don't forget to stock up. Most retail businesses and municipal services have modified hours or are closed on Canada Day, so plan ahead.

If you're looking for beer to help with the celebrations on Monday, you're in luck. Two Beer Store locations in Cambridge will be open with mondifed hours. The Beer Stores on Holiday Inn Drive and Franklin Boulevard are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All LCBO retail locations will be closed on Monday, July 1, for Canada Day.

Various craft breweries in Cambridge and around the region are open Monday. 

Wavemaker Craft Brewery on Laurel Street is open from noon to 6 p.m. on July 1 and will have a booth set up at Riverside Park all day. 

Farm League Brewing on Ainslie Street is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday.

If it's groceries you're looking for, you're out of luck. It looks like all grocery stores around the city are closed Monday.

City-run facilities will have modified hours during the holidays.

City Hall and Admin Buildings

Cambridge City Hall offices will be closed July 1

Cemetery and Fire Admin Buildings will be closed July 1

Community Centres

Cambridge Centre for the Arts is closed all weekend as are the David Durward and William E. Pautler centres.

The Ted Wake Centre and Allan Reuter Centre is open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and closed Sunday and Monday.

Pools

The George Hancock and Ed Newland outdoor pools are open regular hours all weekend long, including July 1.

The W.G. Johnson Centre and the John Dolson centre pools are open June 29 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and June 30 from 10 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Both indoor pools are closed the holiday Monday.

Arenas

Galt Arena Gardens is closed June 29 but open regular hours June 30.

The Hespeler Memorial Arena is open regular hours Saturday and Sunday but closed Monday.

All other city operated arenas are closed all weekend.

The Cambridge Farmers’ Market is open Saturday, as per usual, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Idea Exchange

All Cambridge Idea Exchange locations are open regular hours Saturday. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

Region of Waterloo

Here’s a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Canada Day weekend.

What’s open and/or operating on a different schedule on July 1:

Grand River Transit will operate on a holiday service schedule. Holiday service is noted on all route schedules.

MobilityPLUS service will operate. For customers with subscription trips, those trips will be automatically cancelled. MobilityPLUS customers can rebook their trip seven days in advance by calling 519-744-2241.

GRT customer service locations and hours of operation:

  • Call 519-585-7555 | 24/7
  • 35 Ainslie St. S., Cambridge | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Note: Customer service will be closed from about 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • 105 King St. E., Kitchener | 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • 250 Strasburg Rd., Kitchener | closed

Region of Waterloo Call Centre: 519-575-4400, open 24/7.  

Region of Waterloo International Airport

Curbside waste collection is not affected. Remember to have waste items to the curb by 7 a.m.

Region of Waterloo Museums:

  • Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Schneider Haus is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • McDougall Cottage is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Cooling spaces at 150 Main (Cambridge) and 150 Frederick (Kitchener) are open seven days a week, including holidays.

What’s closed on July 1:

All Regional Administrative Offices (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, administrative offices for the airport and libraries)

Cambridge and Waterloo small vehicle transfer stations for residential waste drop-off.

All Region of Waterloo Library locations

Welcome Spaces (99 Regina, 150 Main, and 20 Weber Street)

Home Child Care is operating as specified by your provider, but offices will be closed. For urgent issues, call 519-575-4400 and ask for Home Child Care.

Sunnyside Home reception and administration will be closed but visitors and caregivers are welcome
