The Gaslight District's new Christmas Market will see hundreds of vendors, Santa and even a gingerbread house competition as it looks to take on it's first holiday season.

"We are excited to welcome in the community for the holidays and kick it off right," says Kyle Priestly, creative director for the Gaslight District.

Starting on Nov. 24 the Cambridge public square will host four weekends of Christmas themed markets, competitions and entertainment wrapping up on Dec. 17.

Priestly says their goal is to bring Christmas back, making new traditions and giving the community a space to celebrate and connect with each other.

"We want to be a part of those Christmas memories for people," he says. "Much like when we were kids having memories of going out and experiencing Christmas, we want to add to those."

The newly opened Bellflower Market will also be hosting a gingerbread house competition on Dec. 3 to show off the community's culinary creativity.

People are welcome to bring their gingerbread displays to the Bellflower to be displayed and voted on. Prizes for the best built and most creative will be announced closer to the date.

"Everyone who brings something in, whether it be a house or a candied stain glass window will also receive a $5 gift card to the Bellflower," adds Priestly.

For the young children, Santa will also be available for free pictures every Saturday and Sunday starting Nov. 24.

The festivities don't stop for Christmas as the Gaslight District is also planning on hosting a large New Years Eve party at the square, countdown and all.

"We're pretty pumped for New Years. There's going to be live music, drinks; it's going to be a party," Priestly says.

This will be the first holiday event held at Gaslight and they are ready to make history with thousands of attendees expected to walk the square and the markets.

"I think this might be the biggest Christmas event ever in Cambridge," adds Priestly. "We want everyone to come out, do some holiday shopping and sip some hot chocolate."

Nearly all events are free and open to everyone of all ages. For more information and a schedule, visit the Gaslight District's website
