City staff say work restore weather-damaged sections of the Galt cenotaph will be completed well in advance of Remembrance Day next month.
In an email to CambridgeToday, manager of operations for the city's parks and arenas, Mike Henry, said the Queen’s Square cenotaph has seen some wear over the years that requires occasional maintenance.
Most of the repairs on the cenotaph are required due to weather related causes and the preservation work underway now was included in the city's 2024 minor capital budget.
The scope of the project will involve grinding, removing, and patching all chips, holes, and surface damages in the cenotaph base.
The work will include the removal and replacement of the existing loose mortared joints as well as restoration of the failing parging on the existing foundation wall.
The total cost of the restoration project is $31,180.
