Cambridge RedHawks hosting Pink in the Rink game for cancer research

Pink game worn jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds being donated

Saturday's home game is about more than the final score for the Cambridge RedHawks.

The team hosts the Elmira Sugar Kings at Galt Arena Gardens in its Pink in the Rink game.

Player's will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off in the Sleeman's Alumni Hall with all proceeds being donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The game also serves as a rematch of last season's first round playoff series that saw the Sugar Kings advance and is the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League spotlight game in partnership with 519 Sports Online, allowing for more people to watch and support the cause.

"Everyone of our players, coaching staff, volunteers and owners have been impacted in some way by cancer and this is our little way where we can give back," team president Rob McIntosh said.

"We live and work in the community and being a Redhawk is so much more than what happens on the ice. Our players know when they sign on to be a Redhawk that there is a community expectation that comes with it.  You will see more players in the community for more events as we continue to grow in Cambridge."

The RedHawks have opened the season with a 3-3 record, good for eighth place in the 11-team Eastern Conference.

Offensively, Cambridge native Reid Gammage leads the way with four goals and five assists for nine points in six games.

In goal, Brandon Balcar has played in four games. He's posted a 2-2 record with a 3.02 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
