After running a soft launch on July 29, the City of Cambridge will be hosting a grand opening of the newly renovated Ed Newland pool on Aug. 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
It comes after a July that was determined to be the hottest month ever recorded by United Nations chief Antonio Guterres.
The pool was originally set to open on June 17 but construction delays and shortages pushed the opening date back.
Although the pool is welcoming swimmers, work in ongoing on the interior of the building and will continue beyond the pool shutdown after the Labour Day weekend.
Pool liners, building a new deck area, updating the circulation system and addressing accessibility concerns were all part of the $1.2 million worth of renovations completed on the 90-year-old facility.
The grand opening is a free community event.
