The latest donation will be used to help purchase high-tech pharmacy equipment and contribute towards the Spotlight MRI fundraising campaign, which has now surpassed fifty per cent of its $5 million goal.

The new department will also be named after Cunningham and be known as the Robert L. (Bob) Cunningham Diagnostic Imaging Department when it opens in September.

During his lifetime, Cunningham was a well-known local businessperson, sports enthusiast, and committed community volunteer, including at CMH and CMHF.

$500,000 will be directed to the purchase of a new MRI for the Cambridge hospital while the remainder will be used to purchase high-tech medication management and dispensing equipment for the Hospital’s Pharmacy Department.

"This will modernize operations through automation, enhancing patient safety, medication delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness," read a press release from CMH.

Kenneth Abogadil, director of Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Cardiac Diagnostic added that having access to the latest diagnostic equipment like an MRI means they can diagnose diseases sooner and more effectively.

"Quicker diagnosis means earlier treatment for patients, with improved outcomes, which is what we want for our Community," he said.

Cunningham is described as being deeply devoted to his community and its well-being and known for his desire to help others. He played pivotal director roles on both the hospital and foundation boards and helped set the future vision of care for the Community.

"His commitment to our Hospital was exemplified by an incredible $1 million gift in 2019, leading to the naming of the Robert L. (Bob) Cunningham Intensive Care Unit at CMH. In total, Mr. Cunningham has contributed over $3 million to the hospital," said CMH.
