Cambridge is about to break ground on its new recreation complex.

Construction crews will begin work on the project later this month after Cambridge Mayor Jan Liggett is joined by councillors and staff for a ceremonial shovel in the ground event set for this Thursday at 655 Wesley Blvd. starting at 11 a.m.

Located near Dundas Street South and Branchton Road, the rec complex will be home to a new branch of the Cambridge Public Library and will be adjacent to a joint-use Catholic and public school and daycare.

The city says the development of the new Cambridge Recreation Complex and the surrounding area will form an exciting new community hub in the south end of the city.

The multi-purpose recreation complex will include:

  • 10 lane, 25m swimming pool and warm water leisure pool
  • 3 FIBA Gymnasiums
  • Running/walking track and fitness area
  • Multi-purpose rooms
  • Concession
  • Cambridge Public Library branch
  • Park amenities

The original construction budget of the Recreation Complex was estimated to be around $90,050,950 with Melloul Blamey Construction submitting the lowest bid, at $93,150,000. City council awarded Melloul Blamey Construction with the contract at a city council meeting last month while approving additional funding of $3,233,600 to start construction.

The complex is expected to be completed at some point in 2026.
