Canada Day isn't the only celebration happening in the city this weekend.
The Cambridge Newfoundland Club will be hosting a weekend-long schedule of activities and events as part of their annual reunion.
The reunion has been running for 52 years and began as a garden party back in 1971. The event returned in 2022 for the first time since before the pandemic and is back in full swing.
President Jamie Squires is excited to showcase what the club has to offer.
"People can expect great music and great food while seeing old friends from years past and making new ones," Squires said.
"We hope the community has fun and sees our club as not just for Newfoundlanders but for anyone that wants to rent one of our halls for a special event in the future."
The festivities will kickoff on Friday at 8 p.m. with a social. Tickets are $5 at the door.
On Saturday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. their will be a free indoor concert put on by Mighty Ship. Outside in the beer garden residents can enjoy music from Screeched In.
The concert carries into the evening with Passion Over Reason playing on the indoor main stage and Mainland Kitchen Band performing at the beer garden.
Tickets are required for the night show and are $20 at the door.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, the club will host the Newfoundland Reunion Softball Tournament at the Cambridge Sports Park fields with prizes being given out to the winners back at the club.
A free family day is planned for Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. that runs into the evening. Grand River inflatables will be on hand with a bouncy castle for kids and face painting.
For the adults there will be more musical performances. The kitchen will also be open on Saturday and Sunday.
For Squires and his team of 10 committee members, the reunion represents a key source of income to keep the club financially stable.
"The reunion has been getting better each year and brings in revenue to help our non-profit club thrive," Squires said.
"It brings the community together with everyone being welcome. It's our biggest event of the year."
