The humane society is welcoming guests to Canadian Tire on Pinebush Road for an adoption and pet food drive on Oct. 26.

The Cambridge and District Humane Society is hoping there will be more smiles than scares this Halloween.

Instead of its annual Howl-o-ween market, the humane society is putting on an adoption and pet food drive in partnership with Canadian Tire on Pinebush Road.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 26, people can learn about the animals up for adoption and the process of adopting.

The shelter currently has 15 cats, six dogs and three guinea pigs in search of a home. In an effort to alleviate the pressure on its capacity, it recently reduced the adoption fee for adult cats to $250.

Donations to its emergency pet food bank will also be accepted. Blankets, canned pet food, cat kibble, cat litter, cleaning supplies, treats, towels and toys are among the most needed items.

The food bank relies on community donations to assist those in need of help with food and supplies. The program is designated for Cambridge residents and access is limited to twice a month per person to ensure supply is maintained and there's even distribution among the community.

The first 100 guests at the event receive a free gift card and there will be a grand prize raffle.
