'From the early morning fishing derby to the fireworks finale none of this would be possible without community minded people who worked incredibly hard,' writes volunteer coordinator Carol Thorman

Spectators lined King Street East to take in this Monday's Canada Day parade.

CambridgeToday received the following letter from resident Carol Thorman, who gives recognition to the Canada Day volunteers:

Many people don't realize that all the wonderful Canada Day activities that took place yesterday and were so well attended in Preston Towne Center and Riverside Park were the result of year long preparations by a very dedicated group of volunteers.

From the early morning fishing derby to the fireworks finale none of this would be possible without community minded people who worked incredibly hard. Many of the key organizers have been doing this for many years.

When it was announced that we were in dire need of more volunteers, this community stepped up again. I'm a great believer that we make the community we want to live in and I'm so proud and grateful for those who embrace all the best Cambridge has to offer, roll their sleeves up and work to shape a better community.

It absolutely warms my heart to watch the sea of people leaving Riverside Park after enjoying the events brought on because of dedicated volunteers. Few realize that when their day is over, the hard work of cleaning up continues for the organizers who continue working long after the community is sleeping.

If you love our Cambridge community like I do, consider how you can contribute, in a big or small way to making it even better.
