Sometimes, the richest treasures are hidden in your own backyard.

Visitors to the historic Gaslight District will likely agree once they come across the Underwing, which is quickly positioning itself as the go-to destination for music, dining and live entertainment in the Cambridge region.

Jerrett Young, CEO of Equal Parts, the hospitality company managing The Underwing, The French, Foundry Tavern, and Tapestry Hall, says his intent was to provide people with a rich experience – music, atmosphere, and food – at a single, convenient locale.

“People are desperate for places to gather and have experiences,” Young says. “And Underwing provides just that."

Underwing's charm lies in its ability to offer an all-encompassing evening. The restaurant seamlessly blends an elevated dining experience with an organic, spontaneous vibe that local musicians bring to the venue.

"It's a place that's really great for couples on date night, but also fantastic for groups celebrating birthdays, engagement parties, or rehearsal dinners," Young says.

Named after a butterfly known for its hidden beauty, Underwing reveals its charm once discovered. The restaurant is adorned with paintings by Calgary visual artist Julya Hajnoczky, who was commissioned to create four large portraits using specimens scanned from University of Guelph's insect collection.

Adding to what Young calls a “moody, sexy” vibe, the venue’s dark velvet curtains and plush seating lay juxtaposed against the historical elements of the building, such as the original McCullough and Sons foundry logo.

Underwing’s nightly offerings include Social Hour every Tuesday to Saturday, where people can enjoy $7 snacks and ½ price cocktails. Signature drinks like Underwing Sangria, Kentucky Mule, Watermelon Mojito, Fireside Margarita, and Cucumber Basil Bliss pair perfectly with snacks such as broiled East Coast oysters, Tiny Beef Tartare Tacos, Spiced No Beer Nuts, Smoked Mozzarella Sticks, and Coffee & Pickles.

"We want people to feel transported into another world once they walk through our heavy blue velvet curtain," Young says.

Whether you're planning a romantic evening or a joyous group gathering, Underwing is the perfect destination to create forever memories.
